LOCATION/LOCAL TRANSPORTATION/PROGRAMS

LOCATION:  The Wilmington Aquatic Center (WAC) and the ACCESS of Wilmington Recreation Center will located on 20 acres of land being donated from 135 acres that comprises Olsen Farm. WAC and the ACCESS Center will be the centerpiece of the new Olsen Farm Recreation Village in Wilmington, NC adjacent to I-40 at Murrayville Road near the ACCESS Miracle Field.

Local Transportation:  WAC and ACCESS will provide free local shuttle service to the Centers so all residents in New Hanover County will have access to WAC and the ACCESS Recreation Center.

An unparalleled sports-anchored mixed-use development started 20 years ago with a previous donation of 65 acres for nearby Olsen Park, featuring the largest Miracle Field in the USA, where ACCESS of Wilmington provides Miracle League baseball and other fitness, sports and recreation programs for children and adults with disabilities, as well as the first accessible playground in New Hanover County. For more information about ACCESS programs and its planned Recreation Center, visit https://www.accessilm.org/

PROGRAMS: WAC will offer swim lessons and various aquatic programs, which will increase access to swimming for individuals of all ages and abilities, including those with disabilities and seniors with decreased abilities, who also are served by ACCESS. Year-round access to swimming and water therapy at WAC will be available for recreation and rehabilitation in an accessible and supportive setting.

WAC and ACCESS programs will increase in-person interactions, decrease screen time and reduce isolation. WAC and the ACCESS Recreation Center will foster health, fitness, well being and connection for all current and future generations in the Wilmington community.
